Joel's Friend Noah from NY Visits CA - part 6

On the 4th day of Noah's visit (Wed.) the boys spent more time at the house playing together (like old times). Later in the day they went to Aunt Dee's to get some more pool-time in on this hot day. They swam for hours and the rest of the night watched a movie before retiring.

The next morning it was time to leave at 6AM to head to Sacramento where we were meeting Tim so he and Noah could catch a flight back to NY. We had hoped to be able to spend some time with Tim at the airport but as it turned out, his next flight left little time for a hug and small talk before he and Noah had to go through security to prepare to board the plane. Perhaps they will be able to come another time and be able to stay longer. It sure was good to see Noah again -- good buddies for life!!

After stopping by the hospital to see baby Nathaniel again, we ended day 3 with a trip to WaterWorks. It was a hot-hot day in Redding, so Joel and Noah were able to cool off with 3 hours in the cool water. They had a great time and even got the courage to go down the scary CYCLONE a few times before the park closed. Everybody was very tired by the end of the day!

After Turtle Bay on Tuesday, the 3rd day, we went to the Sundial Bridge. Joel and Noah had fun watching the fish from the bridge and running and jumping and swinging from the cables. They especially enjoyed the drinks at the Turtle Bay Cafe when we finished -- it was a very hot day!

"The Sundial Bridge at Turtle Bay crosses the Sacramento River in the heart of Redding, California. Opened July 4, 2004, the bridge links the north and south campuses of Turtle Bay Exploration Park and serves as a new downtown entrance for Redding's extensive Sacramento River Trail system.
"In addition to being a functional work of art, the Sundial Bridge is a technical marvel as well. The cable-stayed structure has an inclined, 217 foot pylon constructed of 580 tons of steel. The deck is made up of 200 tons of glass and granite and is supported by more than 4,300 feet of cable. The structure is stabilized by a steel truss, and rests on a foundation of more than 115 tons of steel and 1,900 cubic yards of concrete. The McConnell Foundation, a private, independent foundation established in Redding in 1964, funded the majority of the bridge's $23 million cost.
"World renowned Spanish architect and engineer Santiago Calatrava conceived the Sundial Bridge's unusual design, his first free-standing bridge in the United States. Calatrava has built bridges, airports, rail terminals, stadiums, and other structures around the world. His notable designs include the new PATH transportation terminal at the World Trade Center site in New York City and several projects at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, including the main stadium where opening and closing ceremonies were held."

Joel's Friend Noah from NY Visits CA - part 3

Day 3, Tuesday, we spent the day in Redding at Turtle Bay, the Sundial Bridge, seeing the newborn Nathaniel again at the hospital, and WaterWorks. All the photos in Part 3 are from Turtle Bay.

Turtle Bay is a great place for the family to go. Here's what their website says:

"Turtle Bay Exploration Park is a sprawling 300-acre campus filled with educational and entertaining activities all focused on the interpretation of the relationship between humans and nature. Spanning the Sacramento River and linked by the Sundial Bridge, the Park tells the story of the region and its people."
It was hard to get Joel and Noah away from here. Noah just had a great time with the parakeets and other birds there. There was a lot of hands on things to do, especially with the new space section.
