The 4 Day (almost endless) 14th Birthday Celebration - part II

After we left the Shasta Lake Caverns we headed north on I-5 until reaching a place called RAILROAD PARK. Just half a mile south of the town of Dunsmuir, CA, it was a place we discovered while on our anniversary trip a few weeks ago.

Joel has always had a love for trains. It probably started because the tracks ran about 10 feet from our backyard in Elmira Heights, NY. We lived there from the time he was born until he was about 7 years old. The train would literally shake our house when it went by. We grew to love that shaking and he grew to love trains.

Almost every vacation we took would always include some kind of train ride or a train museum between New England and Texas. The Lord even blessed us with a cross country trip from Syracuse, NY to Sacramento, CA and back again on the California Zepher Amtrak train. It was a wonderful 2 1/2 day trip one way (plus the return). We had our own private room and food was covered as well.

That's why we chose RAILROAD PARK to surprise Joel with an overnight in a real caboose for his 14th birthday. He was very surprised when he found out we had reserved a caboose for the night. The photos that follow are just a few from the rest of that day and the next day as well.

We were in number 777 (great number), a beautiful bright yellow caboose! The pool was closed due to the season, but we did get to use a very hot jacussi -- it was a lot of fun. Joel got to open a birthday gift periodically throughout the 2 days.

In the morning we had birthday cake outside the caboose with a wonderful view of the mountains. It was a gorgeous day. We drove to Mt. Shasta City and took some photos of Mt. Shasta and Cinder Mountain. We finished off the afternoon with a delicious Italian meal at Strings.

All 3 of us greatly enjoyed the night in the caboose -- a dream come true!

The birthday celebration will continue in part III.
